A man wearing a crown of thornsand carrying a black cross representing the burdens of the urban poor, and protesters dressed as Roman soldiersmarched from the Rizal Park at Araneta Street to the Fountain of Justice at Luzuriaga Street in Bacolod City, yesterday.
The black cross bore the words “Demolisyon”, “Tokhang”, and “Durterte Pasista”. The cross also represents the problems of most of the people such as being jobless and homeless, Ireneo Longhinos, secretary general of Kadamay-Negros, said.
At the Fountain of Justice, the protestors aired their grievances while a man wearing a soldier’s uniform, lashed the cross with a whip.
In their “Kalbaryo sang Banwa” protest, the militants slammed the policies of the government and the tyrant-dictator kind of leadership of President Rodrigo Duterte, Longhinos said.
Also highlighted in the protest wasthe protestors’ opposition to the TRAIN (Tax Reform Acceleration and Inclusion) law that they claimhas triggered the increase in prices of commodities.
The giving back of authority over the war on drugs to the Philippine National Police was also hit by the protestors who believe this could trigger another wave of killings of suspected drug pushers and users, most of whom belonged to the urban poor.*SGG
