Coach gets 480 years
for raping 3 students

A taekwondo trainer was found guilty of 12 counts of rape committed against three of his minor students in Bacolod City and sentenced to 480 years imprisonment yesterday.

Bacolod Regional Trial Court Branch 43 Judge Philadelfa Pagapong-Agraviador sentenced Allan Labayen Arellano to suffer the penalty of 12 counts of reclusion perpetua, which carry imprisonment of 40 years each, for rape.

He was also ordered to indemnify his three victims P225,000 for each count of rape for a total P2.7 million.

Arellano was accused of raping his victims aged 10, 11 and 12 in 2008 and 2009. The victims said he raped them after taekwondo practice in his house and in their classroom.

They told the court they had to obey Arellano’s orders, especially giving in to his sexual advances, otherwise he would not allow them to participate in taekwondo tournaments.

The accused also bullied them because there were times when he shamed them in front of their teammates, they said.

He also threatened that he would bomb their houses and told them that he had a gun, they said.

The girls said they were afraid of Arellano and what he was capable of doing to them and their parents.

The judge noted that Arellano could not recall his whereabouts on the dates the girls accused him of raping them. He also could not state with reasonable certainty the reason why his three students implicated him if he never wronged them, the judge added.

Arellano was also found guilty of acts of lasciviousness committed against an 11-year-old student and sentenced to an additional four months and one day to four years and two months imprisonment.*CPG
