Young chess champion Jamon Cajeras of Escalante City displayed his winning moves to win the championship in 15 and Under category of the Sipalay Chess tournament during the weekend.
The 15-year-old Cajeras, a consistent winner in local junior chess events, posted 5.5 points after the 7-round competition to bag the P5,000 top prize. He also received a trophy and a medal.
Settling for the first runner-up honors behind Cajeras was Clak Ken Pelione, while Adrian Amor placed third, Kenneth Allen Ballo-allo at fourth place and Alfonso Louis Olendo completed the top five winners.
Meanwhile topnotch woodpusher Ellan Asuela also had 5.5 points to his credit after the competition to secure the title in the Rapid Chess Open category.
Danny Mangao placed runner-up, Eric Abanco, second runner-up, Ric Raymund Dela Peña, third runner-up, and Ted Ian Montoyo, fourth runner-up.
The tournament offered P4,000 cash prize to the second placer and P3,000 to the second runner-up with the fourth up to 10 placers also receiving cash prizes.
Other winners during the tournament were: Louie Nerio (Best in 10 Under), Jamelin Ruth Lim (Best in 12 Under), Adam Noah Belano (Best 14 Under), and Aliah Grace Belano, as the top female participant in the age-group category.
Top female player in the open category was Eden Agape Tumbos, who received P1,000.*
