18 teams set to compete
in 3rd NOFA Invitational

Eighteen teams are expected to see action in the 3 rd Negros Occidental Football Association Invitational Cup slated May 2-5.

NOFA president Ricky Yanson said five teams each from Luzon and Mindanao and another eight from the Visayas will participate in the tournament which will be held in partnership with the Philippine Football Federation.

Yanson said, in an interview after the awarding rites of the DFL First Conference on Saturday, that NOFA is forming a selection from among the league teams to represent the association in the national tournament.

The competition will be for U-13 teams.

Yanson described the outcome of the DFL tournament as "encouraging" as he also pointed out the participation of more female players in U-11 and U-9 mixed categories.

At the same time, he noted that the DFL tournament has contributed to the improvement of the local team in its participation in the regional and national Palaro.

It has provided the players the necessary exposure, he said.

He also disclosed that NOFA is looking forward to the establishment of Visayas as the center for football grassroots development program.

He said that the center will be set up with the assistance of the Japan Football Association, whose representative has visited Bacolod twice in preparation for the implementation of the grassroots development program.*AVDC
