A Negrense household service worker in Saudi Arabia, who claimed she was locked in a stockroom by her employer, finally left for the Philippines, yesterday.
Edrelyn Cauntoy, 27, of Barangay Poblacion in Bago City, Negros Occidental, said her flight back to the Philippines was at about 9 a.m. yesterday - Saudi Arabia time, or 2 p.m. yesterday in the Philippines.
Cauntoy was allegedly locked in a stockroom by her female employer in Jeddah, Saudi Arabiaon March 13 and was given only noodles for food.
The husband of her female employer helped her on March 21 to fly to Dammam, also in Saudi Arabia, where she stayed while waiting for her plane ticket to return to the Philippines.
Cauntoy asked for help through a video of her taken in a stockroom where her female employer locked her.The video was uploaded on Facebook and it went viral.
In Dammam, the mother of her male employer gave her proper food and clothes since her belongings, including under garments had been confiscated by her female employer in Jeddah, she said.
Cauntoy thanked everyone who helped her, including those Filipino workers abroad whom she met along the way.
She said her female employer did not allow her passes or days-off, and forced her to attend to all the needs and orders of the nine members of the household, duties that were not stated in her contract.
Cauntoy started working for her female employer in July 2016 and her contract was supposed to expire in July.*SGG
