A Regional Trial Court judge sentenced yesterday three fathers, one of whom was No. 2 on the Bacolod drug watchlist, to life imprisonment for the sale of dangerous drugs.

Executive Judge Raymond Joseph Javier of Bacolod RTC Branch 52 sentenced Renante Tianga Malan, 57, Alfredo Pagot Aplasca, 52, and Lido Portilla Sombilla, 56, to life imprisonment after finding them guilty beyond reasonable doubt of violating Section 5, Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, in separate decisions.

Their immediate transfer to the National Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa was also ordered.

Sombilla, a jeepney driver, was meted three sentences, two of them for life imprisonment.

In Criminal Case 12-36040 he was sentenced to life and ordered to pay a fine of P500,000 for the sale of .05 gram of shabu for P500 to a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency poseur-buyer at Purok Cadena de Amor, Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod City, on Aug. 19, 2011.

When the PDEA team subsequently searched his house by virtue of a search warrant, 11.24 grams of shabu and drug paraphernalia were also seized.

Sombilla’s wife, Bevererly Sayon Sombilla, 56, who had been out on bail was also found guilty of possession of .05 gram of shabu and sentenced to imprisonment of 12 years and 8 months as minimum to 17 years and 8 months as maximum, and to pay a fine of P300,000 in Criminal Case 11-35315.

Malan, who was No. 2 in the Bacolod drug watch list, was sentenced to life imprisonment and to pay a fine of P500,00 for the sale of .074 gram in exchange of P300 to a police-poseur buyer in his house at Purok Sigay, Barangay 2, Bacolod, on June 27, 2015 in Criminal Case 15-40880.

Malan was also found guilty of possession of 7.161 grams of shabu and sentenced to suffer the penalty of 20 years and one day and to pay a fine of P400,000 in Criminal Case 15-40879.

Aplasca, a father of six, was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to pay a fine of P500,000 for selling .06 gram of shabu for P300 to a police poseur-buyer in Purok Mahigugma-on, Barangay 22, Bacolod, on May 9, 2012 in Criminal Case 12-36227.

Upon his arrest he was bodily searched and two more plastic sachets of shabu with a combined weight of .52 gram were recovered from him for which he was sentenced to 12 years and 8 months as minimum to 17 years and 8 months as maximum imprisonment and ordered to pay a fine of P300,000 in Criminal Case 12-36228.

The judge ordered the turnover of the shabu seized from the four to the PDEA for destruction.
