A town police chief was shot and injured yesterday by an armed suspect, whom he and his men tried to persuade to surrender peacefully at Hacienda Manucao-A in Brgy,. Palayog, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental.

Chief Inspector Jake Barila, Hinigaran police chief, sustained a gunshot wound in his left thigh, but is now in stable condition, Police Inspector Charmae De Paz, Public Information Officer of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, saidyesterday.

Barila and members of the Hinigaran police responded to a letter requestof Victoria de Ysasi, through her daughter,Marie, reporting that her son, Dabi, was acting violently and indiscriminately firing his .45 caliber pistol inside their house.

Police investigations showed that the suspect, who was wearing a bullet proof vest, allegedly mauled his mother, and threatened to kill anybody, if she would not give him money.
