An intensified outbreak immunization drive against measles was underway in Kabankalan City yesterday, Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, Negros Occidental provincial health officer, said.
Catch up immunization drives were also going on in other towns and cities, he said.
On Monday Mayor Isidro Zayco declared a measles outbreak in Kabankalan after the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine confirmed that there were three measles positive cases in Barangay Camugao in the city.
The Department of Health requires the declaration of an outbreak even if only one measles case is confirmed in a local government unit, Zayco said.
In Kabankalan a non-selective measles immunization drive for 6 months to 5-year-old children, regardless of previous immunization, was underway, Tumimbang said.
They have adequate supply of vaccines from the Department of Health, he added.
The PHO is also creating monitoring teams to oversee the Outbreak Response Immunization activities, he added.*CPG
