Rice black bug
damage hits P1.4M

The infestation by rice black bugs in La Castellana town, Negros Occidental, left damage estimated at P1.44 million in the last three months, record of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist showed yesterday.

The record showed that P1,445,862 worth of damage was reported, covering 30.12 hectares and affecting 47 farmers from December 2017 to February this year.

The OPA report also said that their office had provided bio-controlling fungus Metarhizium anisopliae, acquired from the Department of Agriculture-Western Visayas Crop Protection Center.

The local government units have also initiated light trapping operation three days before until three days after the full moon to manage the RBB infestation.

The report also said that they collected about half a sack of RBBs during the light-trapping operations.*MLG
