Karmex relied on a huge third quarter to run away with a 108-95 victory over Ignite at the start of the second round in the ABC-Leads Agri Cup, Wednesday night.
Trailing by a point at the half, Karmex outscored Ignite, 35-12, in the third canto for a commanding 22-point lead.
With Christian Maravilla and Tommy Andren rallying for Ignite, the lead of Karmex was down to 10 points with four minutes remaining. But timely baskets from Miguel Mosquera and Vince Tan at crunch time sealed the win for Karmex.
Mosquera paced Karmex (3-2) with 20 points while Dante Ma supported him with 19 points to his credit. Luigino Lacson and Ramon Khey had 13 and 11 points, respectively. as Tan and Ian Secaluya registered 10 points each.
Andren led Ignite (2-3) with 22 points, Maravilla and Arjay Jamero added 15 and 14 points, respectively. Scott Heria and Emil Agana added 9 points each while Fernando Noynay chipped in 8 points.
In the second game, Leadforce came from behind to nip Top Ace, 91-87.
After a disappointing third quarter, Leadforce sprung back to life with their strongest five erasing a 9-point deficit in the first four minutes of the final period.
Japeth Cua scored 13 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter while Martin Jalandoni was a steady force underneath the rim which includes a crucial block that could have possibly sent the game into overtime.
Jalandoni topscored for Leadforce (3-2) with 20 points as Boknoy Locsin and Marvin Tan added 14 points each while Paolo Avecilla and Rixie Ureta combined for 16 points in the win.
Jay R Salga led Top Ace (2-3) with 23, Willy Dasal made 16, Popoy Jamero and Robby Jalandoon scored 12 and 10 points respectively while Dicken Valdez finished with 8 points.*
