Market turns 5

The Negros Farmers’ Weekend Market will celebrate today its 5 th anniversary, on the theme “Towards Stronger and Healthier Community”, at its market area in Magsaysay Avenue, Bacolod City.

Ruby Cruz, lead volunteer of the Farmers’ Weekend Market, said yesterday that today will mark the fifth year of service to the people of Negros through giving local farmers and homegrown chefs a venue to showcase their products.

The event will also launch the Negros Farmers Food Park and give market-goers great tasting food in an open-air, family friendly garden setting, she said, adding that it has been a practice for the farmers’ weekend market to give shoppers a weekend experience they can be proud of.

Regularly, there are 30 farmers who display their fresh products and nine chefs and stall owners usually display their products and crops in the weekend market, she said.

They will be the ones who will cook and serve the dishes to the market-goers, she also said.

In five years, the Weekend Market is getting stronger. Some tried to copy the concept but it did not succeed, Cruz said.*MLG
