Poll control center up
to curb intense rivalry

The Provincial Joint Security Control Center was convened yesterday to keep Negros Occidental peaceful, amid expected intense political rivalry leading up to the May 14 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls, Provincial Election Officer Jessie Suarez said.
The PJSCC led by top Commission on Elections, Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines officials in Negros Occidental will focus on areas of concern, especially in hinterland barangays, Suarez said.
Degamo gets
injunction, stays as guv

The 60-day temporary restraining order that restrained the Ombudsman Visayas and the Department of Interior and Local Government and its representatives from enforcing the third dismissal order of Gov. Roel Degamo expires today.
However, Degamo’s legal counsel, Richard Enojo, said he received a copy of the preliminary injunction issued by the Court of Appeals in Cebu on March 9 that is valid up to the time the main case is resolved.
The third dismissal order of Degamo was due to the case filed by former board member Melimoore Saycon over the use of the intelligence fund and the condonation, while the first two involved the use of the typhoon Sendong funds.
Upgrade inter-island seaports,

A partylist representative urged local government units in Negros Occidental to upgrade inter-island seaports, as he pledged to support and fund this kind of infrastructure project to boost tourism activities.
Angkla Partylist Rep. Jesulito Manalo said yesterday that upgrading seaports will make them more ‘tourist friendly’ and give them a comfortable stay before going into the small and nearby islands of the province.
Manalo, who was in Sagay City, Negros Occidental yesterday as guest speaker at the opening of the 22 nd Sinigayan Festival, announced that the city should be a model for the eco-tourism initiatives it has implemented for years.
