The Provincial Joint Security Coordinating Center for the May 14 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in Negros Occidental will be convened at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City today, Provincial Election Supervisor Jessie Suarez said yesterday.
The coordinating center will be composed of Comelec, Army and police officials.
Suarez said that although the House Committee on Suffrage on Monday voted to postpone the May 14 elections to October 8 this year, there is no counterpart measure in the Senate.
He is 99 percent sure the May 14 polls will push through, as there does not seem to be enough time for postponement with Congress soon to go on recess for Holy Week, Suarez said.
So the Comelec is going ahead with its preparations, he said, adding that the town and city joint security coordinating centers are expected to be convened Friday and Saturday.
The election period, that will include a gunban, will be from April 14 to May 21, while the period for filing certificates of candidacy will be from April 14 to 20
The campaign period will be from May 4 to 12, and election day voting will be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 14.*CPG
