Cauayan boxer bags
OPBF flyweight title

Jay-r Raquinel of Cauayan town scored a 9th round stoppage against defending champion Japanese Keisuke Nakayama to win the OPBF flyweight title, Tuesday at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

Going into the match, the undefeated Raquinel holds a 9-0-1 win-loss-draw record with 6 knock outs while Nakayama has 10 wins and 3 losses with 2 draws (4 Kos).

The victory in Tokyo was a big one for the 21-year-old Raquinel as he was in the enemy’s territory. It also allowed him to officially claim the OPBF flyweight title after winning the interim fight last year against Richard Rosales.

Using a couple of combinations in the opening round, Raquinel put Nakayama on the defensive. He also dominated the middle rounds as the Japanese fighter failed to land his punches against the Filipino.

Nakayama tried to recover some lost grounds in the sixth and seventh rounds but Raquinel stood his ground and caught the Japanese with a solid right in the ninth round for the win.*
