The Department of Agriculture is setting up a 50-hectare solar irrigation system for sugarcane and a dairy farm in Moises Padilla town, Negros Occidental, Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol announced yesterday.
Piñol, in his speech at the opening of the five-day 1 st Philippine Sugarcane Faming Mechanization Expo, also announced that he has recommended Bonifacio Peña to the Philippine Sugar Corp. board.
Bonifacio, is the brother of Moises Padilla Mayor Magdaleno Peña.
Piñol said he recommended Bonifacio to the Philsucor board or maybe as its chair, depending on the approval of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Piñol said he is pouring projects in Moises Padilla as it is the place in Negros Occidental where President Rodrigo Duterte won in the 2016 elections.
The secretary said he was just joking, but it’s true they have to show people that the president “knows how to pay his debts and he knows the people who helped him…thepeople who were with him during the most critical times.”
Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon, who was the next speaker after Piñol, said he just wanted to correct what the secretary said, Duterte did not win in Moises Padilla in 2016.
This prompted Mayor Magdaleno Peña who was seated in the front row to get up and shout out that this was because the governor went to his town and told the 4Ps beneficiaries that they would not get their allocations if Duterte won.
Marañon told him to sit down and proceeded with his speech.
Piñol said the solar irrigation system will be given as a grant for a pilot area in Moises Padilla.
The dairy farm, on the other hand, will have 600 heads of cattle, he added.*CPG
