Pope names Galbines
bishop of Kabankalan
BY CARLA P. GOMEZ

Pope Francis has appointed the vicar general of the Diocese of Bacolod, Msgr. Louie Galbines, 51, as the new bishop of the Diocese of Kabankalan.

Galbines’ appointment was announced by the Vatican at noon in Rome (7 p.m. in the Philippines) yesterday, Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon confirmed last night.

“I was totally surprised…I really cried hard because I really did not expect this to happen out of the blue,” Galbines said.

Galbines, a native of Maao, Bago City, assumes the helm of the Diocese of Kabankalan vacated by Buzon who assumed the post of Bishop of Bacolod in August 2016.

He may assume the post of Bishop of Kabankalan in May or June after Buzon returns from a trip to the United States, Galbines said.

Galbines, who was ordained a priest in 1994, has a bachelor’s degree in theology and masters in philosophy from the University of Santo Tomas and a doctorate degree in theology from the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome.

He was appointed the chancellor of the Diocese of Bacolod in 1994, served as the spiritual director and director of the Sacred Heart Seminary, chairman of the Commission on Clergy for 12 years and as vicar general of the Diocese of Bacolod for six years.*CPG
