The official logo for the year-long celebration of “Bacolod City @ 80” was officially launched by the organizing committee at the Bacolod City Government Center yesterday.
The organizing committee is composed of Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia as over-all chairman, City Administrator John Orola – over-all vice chairman, and Councilor Em Ang – executive director.
Leonardia recalled that he was also over-all chairman when Bacolod celebrated its 50 th year. This is history repeating itself, he said.
Graphic designer Jinky Joy Besa, a native of General Santos, said “This logo is an emotionallogo because it also took me to the journey I had when I first started here in Bacolod back when I was in high school. And seeing Bacolod progress is really very inspirational for me.”
She said she intends to have a very beautiful future here with her children. Which is why when she was creating the logo, she was also looking forward to the future her children would have in the city.
Besa said she also finds the theme “Bacolod City @ 80 : “Full Speed Ahead” not only promising, but important and very appropriate for the time.
She explained the synopsis of the logo starting with the “swiss” icon, which is a journey of how Bacolod started as a settlement starting from the Magsungay River. It symbolizes the humble beginnings of Bacolod, the difficult times it had gone through, and the resilience of the Bacolodnons.
Besa said the “ribbon” is an icon that symbolizes “full speed ahead.”
“Itis a celebration of what is to come and a celebration of pursuing the future for our children and the next generation,” she said.
The swiss and the ribbon would form the number eight of the “80 th” icon and also symbolizes the differences of the people. While the “smile” icon symbolizes the zero in the number 80, she added.
Leonardia said he wants the logo in the notebooks they will be distributing to the students this coming school year. They want the people to be very aware and participative and want to inculcate in their hearts and minds the love for Bacolod, he said.
The mayor also thanked Besa for donating the logo she created for the 80 th year celebration of Bacolod City, for free, during a press conference yesterday at the Bacolod City Government Center.
