About 1,850 persons were apprehended and slapped with penalties for various violations of the Discipline Zone from February 2 to 28 in Dumaguete City.
The project aims to clear the national highway, from Barangay Bunao up to Robinson in Barangay Calindagan, of illegally-parked vehicles, obstructions and other offenses punishable under the laws and ordinances.
Records show that the motorists and pedestrians were apprehended for violations of traffic laws and ordinances that include illegal parking, smoking in public, reckless driving, littering and jaywalking.
The issued citation tickets and penalties range from P 200 to P 500 per violation. Motor vehicles found obstructing traffic and illegally parked can be impounded.
The discipline zone is not only imposing rules and order in the streets with its zero tolerance that has decongested traffic, and prevented accidents, but will also add to the treasury of the city government, a press release from the city said.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo commended the men and women involved in the implementation of the discipline zone project.
Councilor Michael Bandal, DILG Cluster II leader Farah Diba Gentuya, City Chief of Police Supt. Jonathan Pineda, assistant city administrator Dinno Depositario, City Budget Officer Antonieta General, Gilbert Ablong and Danny Atillo of the Traffic Management Office, City Planning and Development Officer Leonides Caro, City Health Officer Maria Sarah Talla, General Services Officer Azucena Gonzales and other officials have repeatedly committed their time, personnel and resources for the success of the project.*RG
