Road safety reminders installed

The Bacolod City government, in cooperation with Grab Philippines, will install road safety signages/reminders in major thoroughfares in Bacolod City to help ease its traffic problem.

Grab is providing the city government about 200 signages that will help guide motorists by redirecting their movements to ease up the road density of motor vehicles in certain areas in Bacolod.

Bacolod Councilor Dindo Ramos, chairman of the Sanggunian Committee on Transportation and Traffic, geared his program on road safety and discipline by coming up with the idea of putting up road safetyadvisory/reminders in all major thoroughfares and busy streets of Bacolod City with the help of Grab Philippines.

The contents of the signages are customized and were designed by the Citizen’s Traffic and Road Watch Group, a non-government organization that started installing them along Lacson Street in Brgy. Mandalagan on March 7. The group hopes to finish the installation in other major streets next week.

Ramos said these are just advisories. In order to compel motorists to obey them, there is need for the Sanggunian to come up with an ordinance to make traffic laws more effective. They cannot penalize traffic violators if they do not have a local ordinance, he said.

These signages will help ease the traffic problem in the city since it will help redirect the route of motorists, Ramos said.

With these signages, motorists, especially private drivers, will understandthat they have options to drive on other roads that are not being used.*CGS
