A united ticket of Negros Occidental bets from opposing local groups inthe 2019 elections is possible, Yves Akol, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan Negros Island secretary general, said yesterday.
“It is possible, everything is possible. The president will always listen to our recommendations,” Akol said, but added that it is really too early to talk about the 2019 polls.
Akol said while Jesus Clint Aranas, Government Service Insurance System president and general manager, is the PDP-Laban Negros president , Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. as the highest elected official of their party in Negros Occidental will be part of their decision making process.
“All of us will have to sit down with guv and find common ground for fielding of candidates,” Akol said.
PDP-Laban that has alliances with other political parties such as the Nationalist People’s Coalition will sit down and listen to all its allies, he said.
“We don’t want a divided Negros,” he said, so there is always a possibility of unity.
Akol said he could not say if the PDP Laban would endorse Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, who is a member of the NPC, for governor of Negros Occidental in 2019.
During a recent private visit of President Rodrigo Duterte to Negros Occidental for dinner with the Yanson family at Ayala North in Talisay City, Lacson was said to be the lone Negros politician present.
But Akol pointed out that it was a private visit and politics was not discussed with the president.*CPG
