The police ruled out “foul play” yesterday in the death of a barangay chairman in Manapla, Negros Occidental, whose body was found hanging inside his residence at about 8 a.m. yesterday.
Police Senior Inspector Julius Caesar Colado yesterday said that the lifeless body of Gil Parreñas, barangay 2 poblacion chairman of Manapla, was found by his older brother, Rolo.
Investigations of the Manapla police showed that the 55-year-old victim had been suffering from pneumonia, tuberculosis and cirrhosis of the liver, that had triggered his depression.
Colado said the barangay chairman used a nylon rope in hanging himself.
There was no sign of foul play in his death, Colado said, adding that it was a suicide.
On the other hand, the police also raised the possibility that Architect Hans Christian de la Victoria killed himself on March 3 at a memorial park in Brgy. Rizal, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
Police investigations showed that the lifeless body of Dela Victoria had a gunshot wound in the chest.
A .45 caliber Safari pistol with six live ammunition and a fired cartridge was recovered near his right hand, the San Carlos police reported.*GPB
