Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon yesterday welcomed the interest of Dynamic Builders in developing the Provincial Administration Center area in Bacolod City into a commercial and office complex.
“Very good” he said, when asked what his reaction was to the project that could cost up to P1 billion.
Board Member Salvador Escalante said Wednesday that what is being proposed is a public-private partnership in which the PAC area would be converted into a commercial area while a six-story office building where all the provincial government offices will be located will be built beside it.
The Provincial Engineering Office is making a design on the proposed project, he said.
An initial study shows that it could cost up to P1 billion, he said.
Meanwhile, Marañon, during a visit of the Negros Press Club officers to the Capitol yesterday, stressed the need for the press to stand up for the truth.
He also outlined the gains of his administration through the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center that has trained more than 3,000 Negrenses, 82 percent of whom have found jobs.
The governor also cited the Project Free project of the provincial government that enables public school teachers to obtain masters and doctoral degrees to improve the quality of education for their students.
Negros Occidental is also is nearing self sufficiency in rice production, and the health needs of Negrenses have been addressed through the Negros Occident Comprehensive Health Insurance Program, he added.*
