After a decade of hibernation, the Negros Basketball Association (NBA) finally returns to the hardcourt with the NBA Open Tournament – President’s Cup scheduled to unfold first week of April, tentatively, at the STI-West Negros University.
Games will be played every weekend with Bacolod Tay Tung High School gym as co-venue.
For the past years, NBA has been the seedbed of great basketball talents who made names in the Philippine Basketball Association, and the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association and the Philippine Amateur Basketball League.
Among the notable NBA products are former pro-league player turned-coach Boyet Fernandez, Noli Locsin, Wilmer Ong, Leo Bat-og, among the few.
NBA used to feed Bacolod-based colleges and university, as well as those schools in Cebu and Manila with numerous talents from the grassroots.
For the re-opening of the league next month, the NBA Board headed by its president Oscar “Dodong” will hold a coaches and team managers meeting on March 15, 3:30 p.m. at the Bascon Café – La Salle. Interested teams are invited to join the meeting.
Supervising the tournament are Bobby Tee as Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner Henry Doble.
Interested teams or ball clubs may call the NBA Secretariat at 0927-7025978 or 0942-0367177.*
