Cops corner drug personality
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

One of the priority targets in the illegal drugs trade in Dumaguete City was arrested Tuesday with about 10 grams of suspected shabu and more than P45,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds from the sale of the illegal drug.

The suspect was identified as Jovanie Mahusay, 22, single, a pedicab driver who yielded three bultos (packs) of “shabu” and three small transparent plastic sachets believed to contain shabu, and other illegal drugs paraphernalia during a search at his residence in Purok Mutia, Sitio Canday-ong in Calindagan, Dumaguete City Tuesday.

Provincial Intelligence Branch, Special Operations Group team leader, Senior Insp. Armel Von Alegria, said Mahusay is considered a priority target due to information that he is able to dispose of shabu at a minimum of P2,000 per sachet. During the test buy, the police used P2,500 as buy-bust money for one sachet of shabu.

He is also reported to engage in illegal cockfighting, with bets ranging from P5,000 to P10,000 per cock.

In an interview, Mahusay claimed the money recovered from his room is part of the regular allowance from his mother, Melanie, who is in Manila, but several deposit slips of big amounts of money found inside the room showed he is the sender, and the mother the recipient.

The police is checking whether there is truth to the claims of Melanie’s husband that she is a Customs broker in Manila, but neighbors claim that she is in Hong Kong.*
