Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV said he will help Carlos Hilado Memorial State College fulfill its requirement to become a university by sponsoring a counterpart bill in the Senate.
Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya, Rep. Alfredo Benitez and Rep. Alejandro Mirasol had authored House Bill No. 7081 for the conversion of CHMSC and all its satellite campuses in the cities of Bacolod and Talisay, and the Municipality of Binalbagan, into a state university to be known as the Carlos Hilado Memorial State University.
Gasataya said the Committee on Higher and Technical Education chaired by Rep. Ann Hofer approved the conversion of CHMSC into a university Monday. He is vice chair of the committee.
The committee and the Commission on Higher Education will conduct an evaluation in the campus after CHMSC has complied with all the requirements requested by CHED, he said.
CHED has given a favorable endorsement for the approval of the HB 7081, Gasataya said, adding that he believes that CHMSC is due for university status.
In his letter to Gasataya dated Feb. 23, Renato Sorolla, president of State Universities and Colleges, said the entire CHMSC academic university extends its heartfelt gratitude for taking a courageous effort to convert CHMSC into a university.
“This initiative motivates the institution to perform its mandated functions to further benefit its stakeholders, especially the Negrense people,” he said.
Sorolla informed Gasataya that the College Administration has started gathering pertinent documents to comply with the requirements and other needed data, as required by law, for the conversion of CHMSC into a university.*CGS
