Task Force Buglas is beefing up the firepower of the Philippine National Police in Negros Occidental, especially its Special Weapons and Tactics unit.
However, the budget in the procurement of firearms and ammunition should be transferred from disaster fund to peace and order fund, as advised by the Department of Interior and Local Government, TF Buglas executive director Maria Lina Sanogal said yesterday.
Task Force Buglas was created by Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. through an executive order to prepare the province of Negros Occidental down to the barangay level, for any threat of terrorism.
It has an approved budget of P21.2 million, for its identified projects and activities.
The anti-criminality unit in the task force has the biggest allocation with P8.2 million, while internal security has P4.3M, humanitarian assistance and disaster response - P4M, information, education and advocacy - P1.8M, coast watch - P1.6M, and communication equipment- P284,000.
The budget also includes P1 million for basic citizen emergency responders training and other allocations will be for support to the task force secretariat and contingency fund.
But Sanogal said TF Buglas revisited yesterday the budget allocated for its various projects and activities, after an increase in the prices of items they have to purchase.
Representatives of various sectors, who are members of TF Buglas, yesterday held a workshop to come up the exact amount for the items to be purchased.
Sanogal said Task Force Buglas will have its Operation Center at the Pana-ad Park in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City.*GPB
