Deceptive federalism
brewing, Obar warns

The founding chairman of the Peoples Solidarity Federal Party in Dumaguete City, Joel Obar, has cautioned the public against believing what he describes as a deceptive federalism, a centrist federalism, or a look-alike federal form of government being espoused by politicians who are preparing themselves for the next elections.

Obar said a genuine federal form of government means the creation first of states before the states will confederate and will draft a federal constitution. What is going on is a look-alike system where politicians involved are already pushing for a federal constitution that suits their motives so they can continue to dictate on the federal states, he added.

Obar was reacting to reports that House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez and some congressmen were seen raising the hands of local officials and barangay captains in a mass oath-taking recently in San Miguel, Bacong, Negros Oriental.

He said this only shows that these people do not want a change in this country. “They don’t want federalism, they’re preparing for the next election,” he added.*JG
