Priestís pick-up hits minors -
1 killed, 1 injured
BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

A priest surrendered to the police, after his vehicle hit two minors, who were riding on a bicycle Wednesday, along the highway of Purok Langka in Brgy. Caridad, Bago City, Negros Occidental.

Grade 6 pupil Hero Melliza, 13, was declared dead on arrival at a hospital, after he and his companion, also a grade 7 student, whose identity is being withheld, were bumped by the Mazda pick-up vehicle driven by Fr. Ritchel Labiana, parish priest of Our Lady of the Pillar Parish in Brgy. Ma-ao, Bago City.

Bago police investigation showed that the two minors, on the bicycle, were bumped at the rear by the pick-up driven by the priest.

Melliza was declared dead at the Bago City District Hospital, while the other injured minor was later transferred to a private hospital in Bacolod City for further treatment.

The police last night said the priest was no longer in their custody as he had reached a settlement with the parents of the victims.*GPB
