PSA cites Alcantara, Ceres

 

World Cadet Taekwondo Championships gold medalist Mary Angeline Alcantara and Ceres- Negros FC were among those recognized during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Awards Night, Tuesday at the Manila Hotel.

Alcantara received the Antonio Siddayao Award, a citation given to promising young athletes that excelled in their chosen sport, while Ceres was given the PSA Citation for winning the inaugural title of the Philippines Football League and topping the ASEAN Zone of AFC Cup 2017.

Alcantara, a student of Living Stone International School in Bacolod City, acknowledged her mentors and those who made it possible for her to compete in the World Championship.

May this award serve as an inspiration to all of our athletes to strive hard and to work hard for their dreams. Nothing is impossible if you just believe and not to loss hope. Laban parasa Bayan (Fight for the Country),” she said in her acceptance speech during the PSA Awards Night.

Meanwhile, Ceres FC Competition Administrator Warren Concepcion, who received the award on behalf of the club, said that team owner Leo Rey Yanson and his family share the citation with the provincial government of Negros Occidental, Bacolod City and their supporters.

The club, he added, also share the award with Philippine Football Federation and the Negros Occidental Football Association.

Named as Athlete of the Year by the PSA was International Boxing Federation junior bantamweight champion Jerwin Ancajas. Other awardees include World 9-Ball champion Carlo Biado and Bowling World Cup gold medalist Krizziah Lyn Tabora.*
