The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-Negros Occidental head said the agency has allocated P62 million scholarship funds to allow more than 8,000 Negrenses to study technical and vocational training programs this year.
Acting provincial director Romelia Nuezca said in an interview yesterday that the scholarships offered this year are under the training for work scholarship program of Tesda to help more people acquire skills that will give them more job opportunities.
Tesda-Neg. Occ. conducted a job fair and TVET enrolment activity at a mall in Bacolod City Tuesday and yesterday to give their graduates an opportunity to land jobs and give underprivileged Negrenses a chance to enroll and acquire jobs that are in demand, Nuezca said.
About 517 Tesda graduates applied at about 15 companies during the job fair on Tuesday and the 8,000 slots for scholarships are still to be filled, she said.
Nuezca also said that if they had not applied for the scholarship program during their activity, an interested individual could apply for it in technical-vocational institutes (TVIs) around the province.
“They will just apply and submit the requirements the school asked from them,” she said, adding “And if they are trained, they could immediately find jobs.”
She is also urging more people who want to acquire additional skills to apply for Tesda scholarships.*MLG
