More infra to fuel growth

Link bridges, tourism, the airport upgrade and renewable energy are among the things that will make Bacolod grow, Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Secretary Michael Dino said as he urged its people to help the local government to continue building on what the city has accomplished for the past 80 years.
Dino, who was the guest speaker at the 80 th charter anniversary of Bacolod City at L’Fisher Hotel in behalf of Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, said Bacolod has come a long way from being a sleepy town of sugar plantations to an economic powerhouse in the Visayas.

“Our people are the instruments that make Bacolod what it is today, what it was, and what it will be in the future,” Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said at the Commemoration of the 80 th Year of the Signing of the Charter of Bacolod City yesterday.
“I call them our engines of growth because they will serve as our models,” he said in an interview, at the city’s recognition of its outstanding citizens, taxpayers and employees.“At a time like this when Bacolod is rapidly growing, we need them all the more, and we need more of them in the task of nation building and the task of building our city,” he said.

The outstanding taxpayers of Bacolod City were given recognition during the Commemoration of the Year of the Signing of the Charter of Bacolod City at L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod yesterday.
The top individual taxpayers acknowledged were Jerry Sy – Silver Dragon Construction Lumber and Glass Supply, Wilkenson Ong – Wilkenson Construction, Manuel Po – LJP Trading, Ofelia Lacson Montelibano – Felicia’s Retail & Pastry Shop, and Pio Escala Villaester – GPM Trading & Engineering Services.The top five corporate business taxpayers are Mainstream Business Inc. (SM Department Store) represented by branch manager Willy Gamboa, Neo Foods Corporation (Jollibee) – Marigold Ponce, SM Prime Holdings Inc. – Julia Javellana, San Miguel Brewery Inc. – John Lorenzo de Guzman, human resource manager, and Shuurmans & Van Ginneken Phil. Inc. – Annie Ronquillo, administrative assistant.
