Peso plunge alarming,
will hurt poor: Robredo
BY CARLA P. GOMEZ

Vice President Leni Robredo said yesterday that the plunge in the peso to its weakest level against the dollar in 12 years is alarming, especially because of its impact on the lives of the poor.

“It is alarming because of how fast and how low the plunge has reached, we need an explanation on why this has happened,” said Robredo, who was in Bacolod City for the launching of an Istorya ng Pag-asa (Story of Hope) Negros Occidental photo exhibit in Bacolod City.

The peso slipped to a fresh 12-year low of P53.27 to the dollar yesterday from P53.23 on Wednesday. moremoremore

BY CARLA P. GOMEZ

Eighty-two Negrenses took their oaths as new members of the Liberal Party before Vice President Leni Robredo, LP chairman, at Mayfair Plaza in Bacolod City yesterday morning.

Robredo said those who took their oaths are not politicians and had applied online to join the party.

She is happy that at a time when the LP is down and is being portrayed by some as bad, these Negrenses are saying “We want to join because we believe in the principles the party is fighting for”, Robredo said. moremoremore
