fuel, three nabbed

A police crackdown on illegal trading of petroleum products in violation of Presidential Decree 1865, resulted in the arrest of three persons selling gasoline on the side of the access road in Barangay Matab-ang, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, 10:30 a.m. yesterday.

Supt. Adonis Rosales, Talisay police chief, said they received instructions from the provincial police command to implement a Department of Energy memorandum to go after the illegal sale of petroleum products.

The three arrested yesterday would not reveal the source of the gasoline they were selling and it is not known if it was illegally siphoned off from tankers, he said. moremoremore

Bago among PH rice achievers

Bago City was awarded one of the 2017 Rice Achievers by the Department of Agriculture during the awarding ceremony at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila Thursday, for its dedicated efforts to the rice industry, its press release said.

Bago is the only local government unit in Western Visayas to be given the award, along with seven provinces and 14 other cities and municipalities in the country.

Bago Mayor Nicholas Yulo and City Agriculturist Carlito Indencia received the trophy and check, worth P1 million, from Senator Cynthia Villar and DA Secretary Emmanuel Piñol, together with officials from the National Irrigation Administration, Bureau of Soils and Water Management, and other DA bureaus and attached agencies.
