2 foreigners rescued
in Apo Island waters
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Two foreign nationals were rescued from the waters off Apo Island yesterday after they were reported missing since 4 p.m. Monday.

They were identified as Matthew La France of Canada, 41, temporarily residing in Lipayo, Dauin, Negros Oriental, and SwayamRawla, 30, an Indian national with American citizenship, with local address at the Dumaguete Spring Hotel in Lipayo, Dauin.

The two divers were carried away by strong currents and waves off the waters of Apo Island and had been at sea for nine hours.

At about 9:20 p.m. Monday, a crew member of the MV Fortune Gold that was passing near the area heard shouts for help from the sea. It took them 25 minutes to finally find the two, who were afloat with their diving gears, Captain RicarteHibalay of Bohol said.

The rescued divers were met at about 2:45 a.m. yesterday by personnel of One Rescue, and the Dumaguete tourist police.*JG
