Silay couple nabbed
with P18M in ‘shabu'

An estimated P18 million worth of suspected shabu was recovered yesterday by the police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency operatives from an alleged drug pusher from Silay, Negros Occidental, during a buy-bust operation on Sunday in Dumangas town, Iloilo.

Arrested were Jose Alberto Pinaga, 32, and his live-in partner, Maebelle Belmonte, 30, both residents of Brgy. Mambulac, Silay City.

Two persons were wounded in a firefight with the police during a buy-bust operation, that yielded 12 sachets of suspected shabu and marijuana at Zone 5, AbadaEscay, in Barangay Vista Alegre, Bacolod City, at about 9 p.m. Sunday.

Francis Bravo, alias “Aprang”, 28, of Barangay Estefania in Bacolod, and Jimmy Deker, 31, of Barangay Vista Alegre, sustained gunshot wounds on their shoulders and were brought to the Corazon LocsinMontelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, a police report said yesterday.

Official: PEZA economic zones
compliant with OSH standards

The head of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority has assured that all economic zones registered under PEZA are compliant with occupancy safety and health standards.
