As Bacolod City celebrates its 80th anniversary this year, the celebration director is urging Bacoleños to ride with the strengths of the city to promote progress and growth.
In a press conference Thursday, Councilor Em Ang, executive director of the year-long "Bacolod @ 80" celebration, said that the progress should be full speed ahead.
“The mayor wants all Bacoleños to be on board and ride with the strengths," Ang said, referring to the business developments occurring in the city.
She said Bacolod has been considered as a poster city for the Business Process Outsourcing industry as its best practices have already been replicated in other cities and provinces.
Ang also reported that there are now 30,000 people employed in this industry and the number is expected to double by 2022.
She reported that the city is becoming a darling of the retail and real estate industry, and proof is that township companies, like Megaworld and Ayala Group, have started to set up establishments in Bacolod.
Global research and real estate firm Colliers had earlier predicted that Bacolod will be one of the cities where 3-star and low budget hotels will be built due to its location that could be a jump-off point for nearby islands, like Panay and Cebu.
The city is also becoming a favorite convention destination this year as more corporate events are being held here, like the World Food Expo that will kick off next month at SMX Bacolod, and other events participated in by foreigners.
“Big conventions are coming up. If all of us come on board and greet them with our sweet smiles, I am sure we could be on top," Ang said.
Above all these, she appealed for cooperation from the people of Bacolod as the government cannot do the work alone.
“We cannot do it alone, all are needed to be all on board to realize our ambitions for Bacolod," Ang added.*MLG
