Ride with Bacolod's strengths
to promote progress: official

As Bacolod City celebrates its 80th anniversary this year, the celebration director is urging Bacoleños to ride with the strengths of the city to promote progress and growth.

In a press conference Thursday, Councilor Em Ang, executive director of the year-long "Bacolod @ 80" celebration, said that the progress should be full speed ahead.

“The mayor wants all Bacoleños to be on board and ride with the strengths," Ang said, referring to the business developments occurring in the city.

18 ARBs installed in Bago

The Department of Agrarian Reform in Negros Occidental-South installed 18 agrarian reform beneficiaries in Barangay Dulao in Bago City, yesterday.

Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer Aurea Lingamen, who led the installation rites, said the newly-installed ARBs will share 18.6 hectares of the landholding formerly owned by Magdaleno Jardeleza, located in Purok Talutog, Brgy. Dulao.

Lingamen said the landholding was acquired through Compulsory Acquisition under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.

She urged the beneficiaries to promptly pay their taxes and land amortizations to the local government and the Land Bank of the Philippines.

Agri products not
taxed under TRAIN

MANILA - Senator Cynthia Villar yesterday reminded the public that agricultural products are not taxed under the new tax reform law amid reports that there are spikes in the price of rice in some areas.

“Unfortunately, there are businessmen who would take advantage of the situation and use the enactment of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion or TRAIN law to justify price increases,” Villar said in a press statement.

Villar, chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, asked the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Agriculture to activate their price monitoring teams to guard against unreasonable price increases.
