The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology regional office 6 has placed Jail Senior Inspector Alexander Sy and four other BJMP personnel, under administrative relief for the death of an inmate at the detention facility in Bago City, Negros Occidental.
Senior Supt. Joel Superficial, BJMP 6 regional director, said the administrative relief of Sy and the four others took effect Jan. 22, was done, pending investigation on the death of an inmate at the Bago BJMP.
Inmate Rene Boy Alvarez was killed allegedly in a riot inside the Bago BJMP on Jan. 18.
Sy was replaced by Jail Inspector Jun Carverosales, who used to be the deputy jail warden of Negros Occidental District Jail in Brgy. Tabunan, Bago City.
Carverosales and Sy swapped positions, NODJ warden Chief Inspector Caste Masip said.
Superficial told ABS-CBN that the relief of five BJMP personnel in Bago, form part of the standard operating procedure to avoid influence in the probe.
Alvarez, 32, of Himamaylan City was being held on charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives, attempted murder and direct assault in agent of authority.
The family of Alvarez is seeking justice for his death inside the jail.* GPB
