Fast craft suspended
BY SHIELA GELERA

The Maritime Industry Authority in Region 6 yesterday suspended the safety certificate of Ocean Jet 7 after it hit the dock of the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. port atthe Reclamation Area in Bacolod City, Wednesday.

Jose Ramelo Sumague, senior maritime industry development specialist, said yesterday the Ocean Jet 7 will not be allowed to sail if it will not be subjected to dry dock.

On Wednesday, about 40 passengers were brought to the hospital after the sea vessel's throttle malfunctioned about 50 meters away from BREDCO port and hit the dock, Lt. Jimmy Oliver Vingno, Philippine Coast Guard-Bacolod head, said.

Sumague said the Ocean Jet 7 is set to have its mandatory dry dock in March this year, but the management decided to have it done this month in Cebu, where there is a facility to fix the damage to the unit.

On September 28, 2017, the same vessel experienced a sudden unintended acceleration and 14 of its passengers, suffering dizziness were brought to the hospital.

The MARINA also suspended the safety certificate of Ocean Jet 7 in September but it was lifted after the unit was subjected to emergency dry docking.*SGG
