The Department of Agriculture-Western Visayas has allocated P255 million for Negros Occidental for farm-to-market roads in 2018.
DA-Western Visayas Regional Director Remelyn Recoter said yesterday that the allocation is part of the P1.1 billion for the whole region to build more farm-to-market roads, or FMRs.
Initially the proposed budget for WV was only about P350M but the DA central office allocated them budget of more than a billion peso, making Region-6 as one of the regions with the biggest funds for farm to market roads.
Recoter said that, with this budget, the whole region may have about 140 farm-to-market road projects this year.
Based on the records given to the DAILY STAR yesterday, the sixth district has the highest allocation in the province with P82 million.
The first district has P42M, second district has P20M, third district P47M, fifth district P32M, and the lone district of Bacolod P32M.
Apart from these congressional districts, party lists like Magdalo and AbangLingkod were also among the entities that will be given funds to build more of these roads, she said.
Provincial Agriculturist Japhet Masculino also said he will consult Recoter about this fund as they are still to receive an official document from the DA-WV office. *MLG
