The Commission on Elections is finalizing the list of the 2,380,447 voters of Negros Occidental for the May 14 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls, provincial elections supervisor Jessie Suarez said yesterday.
The province has 1,768,087 voters for the barangay polls and 612,360 for the SK elections, he said.
Under COMELEC Resolution No. 10246 , the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) for the SK and barangay polls will be from April 14 to 20.
During the 9-day campaign period which is fixed from May 4 to May 12, making any donation or gift in cash or in kind is prohibited, as well as appointing or using special policemen or confidential agents; construction or maintenance of barangay funded roads and bridges; appointment or hiring of new employees, creation of new position, promotion, giving of salary increases, andremuneration or privileges, he said.
The election period is set from April 14 to May 21, during which the COMELEC prohibits the alteration of precincts or establishment of new precincts; carrying of firearms or other deadly weapons; use of security personnel or bodyguards by candidates; transfer of officers and employees in the civil service; and suspension of any elective local officer.
Campaigning is prohibited on the eve of election day, May 13.On election day, casting of votes in polling precincts will be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., the resolution said.
The most number of voters in Negros Occidental are in Bacolod City with 386,700 , COMELEC data shows.
In the first district, the voters in San Carlos City are 113,150, Escalante City - 79,393,Calatrava- 70,288, Toboso - 36,828, and Salvador Benedicto - 22,628.
The biggest number of voters in the second district are in Cadiz City with 115,945 followed by Sagay City with 103,914, and Manapla -40,549.
In the third district,SilayCity has 107,918 voters,TalisayCity - 83,398, VictoriasCity - 79,478, Murcia - 67,135, and EB Magalona - 48,969.
Bago City has the most number of voters in the fourth district at 126,975, followed by La Carlota City with 56,029, Pontevedra - 42,731, Valladolid - 30,622, San Enrique - 23,301, and Pulupandan - 22,527.
In the fifth district, voters in HimamaylanCity are 84,650, Hinigaran - 66,202, Binalbagan - 55,911, La Castellana- 55,044, Isabela - 51,518, and Moises Padilla - 35,135.
The highest number of voters in the sixth district are in Kabankalan City at 134,574, followed by Cauayan - 68,289, SipalayCity - 63,209, Ilog - 46,024, H inoba-an - 42,573, and Candoni - 18,840,Comelec records show.*CPG
