Vallacar Transit Inc. increased its Ceres bus fare byan additional P1 to P2 in all of its routes in Negros Occidental starting yesterday.
VTI started to implement the increase due to the continued increase in fuel prices, its Legal and Media Relations Manager, Jade Seballos, said yesterday.
The increase is still within their fare matrix issued by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, she said.
Seballospointed out that fuel prices have been increasing since last year.
“The increase is not over the prescribed fare in buses,” she said. “It is due to the increase in gasoline (prices)… if there is a possibility that it will be lowered, then the fare will also be lowered,” she added.
The increase depends on how far is the destination. Seballos said that, for instance, the increase in fare from Bacolod City to nearby towns and cities will only be at P1, but in far areas like Hinoba-an, it will be P2.
“If we strictly follow the fare matrix, the increase would be much higher compared to the one we implemented,” she added.
Seballos said they hope for the understanding of the riding public about this increase as they want to cater to everyone, especially the students, who will be burdened by this new fare hike.
The fare of Ceres buses outside of Negros Occidental may also increase soon, she said.
Advisories about the fare hikes will also be posted within this week to inform the public about the situation, Seballos added. * MLG
