The Employees Compensation Commission has intensified its efforts to inform Negrenses about the Employees' Compensation Program, that provides financial assistance to workers who suffer work-related sickness or injury resulting in disability or death.
ECC Deputy executive director Jonathan Villasoto yesterday enumerated at a presscon in Dumaguete the benefits for employees, whether in the government, or in the private sector, a government press release said.
The ECC also provides financial assistance to employees affected by calamities or accidents that happen during work hours, in addition to the benefits given by other government agencies, like the Social Security System and the Government Services Insurance System.
Villasoto cited the case of the recent Davao fire incident in which ECC extended financial assistance to the families of the casualties.
All SSS or GSIS-registered employers and their employees are covered under the ECP.
Benefits under the Employees' Compensation Program include medical services, rehabilitation and income cash benefits for temporary total disability or sickness, permanent total disability, permanent partial disability, or death.
ECP's three components are work-contingency prevention, compensation, and rehabilitation, the press release said.
Those not included in the list of occupational diseases may still be compensable, provided the employee can establish causal connection with the nature of his work and the working environment, the press release added.*
