dead in San Carlos

A newly-identified drug personality was shot dead Wednesday in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, in what the police suspect to be drug-related.

The victim identified by the police as Junbert Calumba,27, was declared dead on arrival at the San Carlos City District Hospital. He succumbed to a gunshot wound in the left side of his body.

The police recovered three empty shells, four live ammunition and a slug of a .45 caliber pistol at the scene of incident, as well as a black gun holster, P20 in cash, two pairs of slippers, and a cellular phone of the victim.

Chief Inspector Robert Indiape, San Carlos City deputy police chief, yesterday said that initial investigation showed that the victim and the suspect had a conflict over non-payment of debts, in connection with the selling of drugs.

Indiape said they are now preparing the filing of charges against the identified assailant.

A motorcycle driver identified by the police as Ariel Villarin was also declared dead on arrival at the Alfredo Marañon Sr. District Hospital, as a result of a vehicular accident, also on Wednesday, in Purok Kalubihan in Brgy. Bato, Sagay City.

Sagay police investigation showed that the Suzuki Raider motorcycle of Villarin, 21, accidentally hit the rear of a parked cargo truck, causing his fatal injuries.

Villarin was on his way to Brgy. Makiling, Sagay City, when the accident took place, the police said.

On the same day, a 64-year-old man identified as Felicimo Paglinawan, was also found dead in Hacienda Bariw in Brgy. Santa Teresa, Manapla.

The lifeless body of Paglinawan was found floating in the river in the hacienda by a certain Rolando Despi, a backhoe operator, who reported it to the Manapla police.*GPB
