The Department of Public Works and Highways has no funds yet for the installation of lighting facilities for the second flyover at the junction of Araneta Street-Magsaysay Avenue, Bacolod City, Bacolod District Engineer Abraham Villareal said Monday.
Villareal said they will include the budget for the lighting facilities in their program, perhaps next year. However, they already have a budget for the lighting facilities of the first flyover in Lacson Street, Brgy. Bata, he said.
“Our bridges and roads are designed for 36 ton vehicles. So vehicles weighing over 36 tons should not be allowed to pass through the flyovers,” Villareal said.
The Anti-Overloading team from the combined forces of the DPWH, Land Transportation Office and local police, were able to apprehend overloaded vehicles such as sugarcane trucks in Bacolod, he said.
Villareal said they will install traffic warning signs to prevent overloaded vehicles from passing through bridges and flyovers in the city.
The Araneta-Magsaysay flyover was inaugurated by Public Works Secretary Mark Villaron December 19, 2017.
Earlier, Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya had requested Villar for two additional flyovers for Bacolod since the city has been included by the DPWH in the list of 10 flyovers to be constructed all over the country.
Gasataya said he is proposing that the two flyovers be constructed along C.L. Montelibano-Burgos in the east, and in Bangga Cory in the south of the city.*CGS
