302nd IB has new head

Another Army officer who used to be assigned in Negros Occidental, is back to his former unit the 3rd Infantry Division this time, as commander of the 302nd Infantry Brigade in Carmen, Bohol.

Col. Ignacio Madriaga was installed Thursday last week as the 25th commander of the 302nd Infantry Brigade by Brig. Dinoh Dolina, 3ID commanding general.

Madriaga, who used to be the 303rd Infantry Brigade Civil Military Operations offficer in Brgy. Minoyan,Murcia, replaced Brig. Gen. Arnulfo Matanguihan, who is also up for a higher posiition.

A member of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1988, Madriaga also served as a platoon leader and company commander of the 7th Infantry Battalion in southern Negros. After his stint in Negros, he became the 41st Infantry Battalion 5th Infantry Division in Abra.

Before his assumption as the 302nd Infantry Brigade commander, Madriaga was the deputy commander of the 702nd Infantry Brigade,7th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army. He completed his Master of Management Studies at the University of New South Wales, Australia.

During the stint of Brig. Gen. Matanguihan as brigade commander, the 302nd Infantry Brigade was awarded as the best infantry brigade, with its only battalion, the 47th IB, chosen as the best Infantry battalion during the 16th Anniversary of the Armed Force Central Command last year.

Both units of 3ID were given recognition for their successful conduct of combat operations from April to May last year against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) members that infiltrated Bohol.

All the 13 ASG members were killed, according to the military.

Aside from 302nd Brigade in Bohol, the 3ID also supervises the 301st Infantry Brigade in Iloilo and 303rd Infantry Brigade in Negros Island.

Brig. Gen. Dolina, 3ID commander, and newly-promoted Brig. Gen. Eliezer Losañes, 303IB commander, will make a New Year's courtesy call on Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. today at the Provincial Capitol Building in Bacolod City.* GPB
