Bacolod to host 71 st PAL
Interclub Golf tourney

Bacolod to host The Philippine Airlines Interclub Golf Tournament returns to Bacolod City this year with more than a thousand golfers joining the competition scheduled on Feb. 26 to March 11 at the Bacolod Golf and Country Club and Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club.

The annual tournament, which began in 1947, is regarded as the country's oldest, largest and most prestigious golf event.

The competition will start off with the Seniors Interclub from Feb. 26 to March 4 followed by the Men's Regular Interclub or the national club's championship on March 5 to 11.

In a media release, the organizers said a total of 180 golf clubs have registered for the competition with each team compose of 8 to 10 players. The organizers expect the total number of participants to reach 1,400.

“Teams will originate from PAL destinations worldwide such as USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, Saipan, Guam, Middle East and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia together with local clubs from Luzon, Visayan and Mindanao,” the press release said.

Last year, the 70 th edition of the tournament was held in Davao with the Apo Golf and Country Club and the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Club as tournament venues.

In last year's Seniors Interclub division, Luisita topped the Championship category followed by Canlubang, Del Monte, and Eagle Ridge.

Orchard Seniors ruled the Founders group with Negros Occidental at No. 2; Manila at third place; Valley Golf, fourth; and Cebu Country Club, fifth place.

The top five clubs in the Aviators category were: Manila Southwoods, Alta Vista, Riviera, Fil Am Hawaii, and host Rancho Palos while Iligan dominated the Sportswriters group followed by Baguio at No. 2 and San Juanico Park at No. 3.

Lumbia, MSU, Travelers, Bennett Valley and Guam Seniors were the top five winners in Friendship category.*
