An alleged former secretary of the Larangan Gerilya 2 of the Komiteng Rehiyonal Negros was apprehended Saturday by combined police and military intelligence operatives in Brgy. 12, Bacolod City, for murder charges.
Capt. Ruel Llanes, 303rd Infantry Brigade spokesman, yesterday identified the arrested suspect as Isidro Castillo, alias Gesnar.
Authorities alleged that Castillo is a member of the Regional Urban White Area Committee of KR-Negros, and spokesperson of the National Federation of Sugarcane Workers (NFSW).
Castillo has denied being an NPA leader and committing murder.
The Police Regional Office 6 said, Castillo also used to be the secretary of LaranganGerilya 2 of KR-Negros headed by Frank Fernandez.
Recovered from Castillo were a Nokia cellular phone and personal documents. He was turned over to the Bacolod City Police Office Station 1 for proper disposition.
Newly-promoted Brig. Gen. Eliezer Losanes, 303rrd Infantry Brigade commander, yesterday said that the arrest of Castillo was a product of information relayed to them by concerned citizens.
Since President Rodrigo Duterte declared that the CPP-NPA is a terrorist organization, Losanes said their high ranking leaders will be swiftly arrested.
Castillo, 66, of Brgy. Pahanocoy, Bacolod City, was also denied bail by the court.
Losanes said he expects more arrests of rebel leaders in Negros, in coordination with the police, with the active participation of communities, as well.
In November last year, three alleged high ranking members of the central committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines were also arrested in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, The two informants, who had helped authorities in their arrest, each got P100,000 as reward for their efforts.* GPB
