La Salle survives Negros Selection
to stay unbeaten in Sagay tourney

An early goal from Mark Christian Gubatayao of the Negros Selection failed to stop defending champions Ceres-La Salle as they pulled off a 2-1 victory to register their third win in the 2 nd Sagay Men's Open Championships at the Sagay National High School Football Field yesterday.

Gubatayao beat La Salle's defense to score the match's first goal in the 6th minute but Oriel CarlieTejada tied the game at 1-all minutes later.

Negros Selection continued to create goal scoring opportunities and challenged Ceres-La Salle's defense but the score remained 1-1 at halftime.

The La Sallians went on an attacking mode in the second half and were rewarded with their second goal courtesy of Charles Barberan in the 59 th minute.

Barberan's marker sealed the win for Ceres-La Salle.

Meanwhile, last year's runner-up Ateneo de Manila University beat Villa Angela FC, 2-1, to claim the No. 2 spot in the tournament.
