A security guard is now in jail, for the fatal shooting of a policeman Saturday at a beach resort in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental.
The victim was Police Officer 2 Britches Talapiero, 36, a member of the Bacolod City Police Office Station 5, and a resident of Brgy. Granada in Bacolod City.
The suspect, identified as Joey Belinario, is a security guard assigned at the Canonoy Beach Resort in Brgy. Miranda, Hinigaran. He is now in jail, pending the filing of murder charges against him in court.
Initial investigation of the Hinigaran police showed that a commotion ensued between the groups of Talapiero and Leslie John Dojillo.
It started when RutchTalapiero,younger brother of the PO2 Talapiero, and Dojillo, who were allegedly both under the influence of alcoholic liquor, figured in a heated altercation.
The younger Talapiero sought the assistance of his group and that of his elder brother,who chased Dojilloto their rented cottage, where fighting also ensued, investigations of the Hinigaran police showed.
Investigations of the Hinigaran police showed that Dojillo was later shot twice by PO2 Talapiero and was hit in the back.
The police officer was chased by responding security guards on duty, while he was fleeing from the scene of incident.
Belenario told the police that he proceeded to an area, where a commotion took place. When Belenario approached and tried to arrest him, Talapiero allegedly tried to get his gun, prompting him to shoot and hit him in the back, police investigations further showed.
Both victims were brought to the Hinigaran Medical Clinic, where PO2 Talapiero was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Jansen Vergara, while Dojillo was later brought to a hospital in Bacolod City.
Belenario, surrendered to the Hinigaran police, where is now detained.
Chief Inspector Jake Barila, Hinigaran police chief, yesterday said that Belenario claimed that he was not aware that Talapiero was a policeman.
Barila said that Talapiero succumbed to gunshot wounds in the back.
Belenario was brought yesterday by the Hinigaran police to the PNP Crime Laboratory in Bacolod City, for a paraffin test
The firearm of Talapiero, a 9mm Glock pistol with a magazine with 12 live ammunition, and the Armscor 12 gauge shotgun of Belenario, are now in the custody of the Hinigaran Police Station.* GPB
